According to today's Economic News, government quango the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is backing a plot backed by U-Tecg Media, CMC Magnetics, Benq and other LCD manufacturers for the forward versatile disk (FVD). Critical flaws in IE and Outlook discovered
quote:
A new set of highly critical flaws has been discovered in Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Outlook programs, according to research company eEye Digital Security.

The vulnerabilities allow for remote code execution with no actions from the computer user, eEye said. Although the flaws would not allow self-propagating worms to infiltrate a system, there is the potential of attackers installing backdoor Trojans without a person's knowledge, Ben Nagy, an eEye senior security engineer, said Friday.

You laugh at the so-called expertise of Best Buy’s GeekSquad, and are the one doing the teaching when calling technical support. This has been written in a stream-of-consciousness approach with edits made only for spelling – it’s a close to the source as you can get. Drive-by Trojans exploit browser flaws
quote:
Analysis Trojans - malicious programs that pose as benign apps - are usurping network worms to become the greatest malware menace. Sixteen of the 50 most frequent malicious code sightings reported to Symantec in the second half of 2004 were Trojans. In the first six months of last year, Trojans accounted for just eight of the top 50 malicious code reports.

Symantec blames Trojans for an upsurge in client-side exploits for web browsers. Trojans create the means to deliver malicious code onto vulnerable Windows PCs. Browsers are the primary target, but flaws in email clients, peer-to-peer networks, instant messaging clients, and media players can also be exploited in this way.
